FIG Auction 9

Room with a View

At times like these we could all do with a garden and if not, a room with a view and if good fortune hasn’t provided one, maybe with our mind’s eye we can imagine something else altogether to make a drawing of, or a painting from.

Included are drawings that Meagan Morrison has made during her travels to and from the most beautiful places on earth as @travelwritedraw, gouache on paper works by Jordi Labanda depicting the chicest of addresses from Marrakesh to Mulholland Drive that you would have to drag yourself away from after lockdown, line drawings of the London skyline by Will Broome and the garden path of Luke Edward Hall’s Gloucestershire home.

For the first time in a FIG Auction we present new works by Brooklyn based artist and illustrator Jenny Williams and Parisian, Caroline Andrieu.

Williams is a graduate of New York’s City’s prestigious The Cooper Union art school and has risen to prominence through her instagram account, @what_my_daughter_wore, that chronicles the dressing up and dressing down of her children and her children’s friends. We auction three works atypical of the kids in clothes genre but nevertheless unmistakably made by her hand in coloured pencil that suggest the artist is headed in a new direction.

Andrieu graduated from EPSAA in Paris before working for eleven years as an art director at Condé Nast France for Vogue Paris, GQ France and  Glamour Paris. Like Williams, Andrieu uses coloured pencil to make drawings and has offered us views from her apartment in Rue-de-Clignancourt and those of friends living nearby. She has a beautiful lightness of touch to her works that echo a little of Hockney’s coloured pencil drawings from the early Seventies.
